Our aim is to make full-bodied red wines that combine the inherent power, complexity and elegance of ‘Bordeaux-style’ reds and capture the distinctive personality of the Hawke’s Bay terroir.
We begin with extensive care by hand for the vines. The grape juice spends a period of 28 days in contact with the skins to extract the maximum flavour and colour from the fruit. The wine is matured in French oak barriques for an extended period of 12 months, adding a distinctive yet integrated oak character.
The wine is heady with aroma of black olive, redcurrant and cassis. Hints of cedary oak and subtle characters of cigar box and tobacco add a touch of mystery. The palate is full with fine tannins and a long finish, while the flavours of cassis and cigar box linger.
