Our aim here is to make full-bodied red wines that combine the inherent power, complexity and elegance of Bordeaux-style reds with the distinctive personality of the Hawke’s Bay terroir.
We begin with extensive care by hand for the vines. The grape juice is allowed to rest on its skins to extract the maximum flavour and colour, then it is matured in our finest oak barriques for an extended period of twelve months.
The resulting deep red wine is heady with aromas of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant, Black Doris plum and dark chocolate. Hints of spicy oak and subtle scents of cigar box and coffee add a touch of mystery. Intense flavours of ripe dark fruits are layered with fine tannins and subtle oak character. The complex yet seductively smooth palate leads on to a long elegant finish.
The wine works best with a substantial partner in the food department, such as blackcurrant-infused eye fillet of beef, with cherry and black pepper jus on roasted vegetables, or rack of lamb encased in a pine nut and rosemary crust, roasted medium and served with wild forest mushrooms and blackberry sauce.
