This Bordeaux-style red is made in a very limited quantity from our very best fruit and captures the distinctive personality of the Hawke’s Bay terroir.
The wine is matured in predominantly French oak barriques (60% new) for an extended period of 12 months. The finest of these barriques were then selected for our 2009 Elingamite Limited Edition, which is a blend of Merlot (70%) and Cabernet Franc (30%).
This deep red wine is heady with aromas of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant, ruby plum and dark chocolate, complemented by a complex layer of spicy oak and subtle characters of cigar box and coffee. Intense flavours of dark fruits are layered with rich tannins and subtle oak character. The complex yet smooth palate leads on to a long, elegant finish.
